1999-2003

2003->

070609 : I added the old images at the bottom. The links to the big pictures dont work. This will be corrected when I get the time.

Ok, this is my biggest buildup yet! The car is a 1981 Rx7 with a "Mariah Mode 1" bodykit. The car came to sweden in 86 I think and the bodykit was installed in the US.
When I got the car in June -99 it had had the front replaced because the car had been badly straightened after an earlier collision.
The previous owner also got a rolled 84 car that he intended to use for parts. It ended up giving away the interior, electrical system, suspension and drive train.. pretty much everything that could be used!
If you have not been here before start at the bottom!

[Technical spec]

021230 : I have now ordered a complete stainless exhaust from RoTechnics in the UK (www.mazdarx7.co.uk). It's due to arrive in the middle of Januari. You can se it at the pic on the right. I also did some planning on the K-jettronic installation. I will relocate the unit to the right front just behind the headlight. This way I can get the airfilter a good position. This was located at the to of the engine before.. not to much cold air there.. The intake will also be modified to make it fit better. There are some new images from the summer as well.
I also just bought a house and that's why I have not done to much more..

020923
: I have now sold the turboparts! The car has been quite good this summer. I've dirven around 2500km with it. No major problems. I did run some different setups on the carburator. The stock carb had nr 92 primary jets. The nr 135 jets worked quite well but had the result the other way around. The car now ran rich... very rich..
Finally I put in nr 102. This may be on the leaner side but works well.
I'll order a exhaust from Rotecknichs soon.
The old faithfull Bosch K-jetronic will go in for next year as I got kind of tired of the carb in the end.

I have driven it to a few meets this summer and really enjoyed it! At the Sportscar show at Mantorp park it was nice to see so many looking at my car when there were Ferraries every where!

020722 :
The car has now been running for some time and I have made a few changes.
I put a BIG 2,5" silencer under the car and one not so big at the end. I'm still using the stock thermoreaktor, but I think I'm going to get a proper exhaust quite soon.. If anyone has anything good to recomend (that is sold in Europe, shipping form the states is to costly) I'm open to suggestions!
The car is still quite loud if you ask me....
I fitted my lambda meter a few weeks ago only to find out that the engine is running far to lean....
I quickly went to the garage and found a few more carbs. It's now rejetted with 135 on the primeris and 150 on the seconderies! This works really good according to all instruments, and it feels alot smoother.
I also installed a new type of lighting for the numberplate... now it's lit up by white LED's.. very nice..

020611
: I have decided to sell my turbokit! I'm selling the following (Shipping only within EUROPE!) Schwitzer 3LD9 turbo, exhaustmanifold (13B), Intercooler and wastegate.
I'll also sell my extra fuel kit, It's electronic and comes with 4 Volvo V40 injectors and fuelrail
If interested mail me at wankel@home.se! I have more pictures that can be mailed.

These parts will pay a new stainless exhaust and I try to run the K-jetronic without the turbo.

020523 : Back on the road again!!! When things don't turn out the way you planned you have to do the best of the situation...
Because I did not have the money to put the turbo back together I decided to run the old carb setup from last year.. at least for some time..
The car now has the rearwing and some new paint on the front.. Looks really good now! Now I just gotta fix a new numberplate.. a smaller one..
The loweringsprings works better than I had hoped and the spacers at the front makes it look really good.. (again). I managed to fit a rather big round 2,5" silencer under the car.. now I've got two of them and it still sounds way to much! Don't really know what to do about it..

020318 : I have now put the spacers at the front and it looks really good. I'll post pictures of this when I get the fenders on again. I also put the loweringsprings on the rearaxel. It looks good (see pic) but I doubt that it will work.. there is only around 40mm of clearance and I don't think that is enough... how ever the car did not look that bad when only lowered in the front..

The intake is once again taken apart and will be welded again during this week.

I also started to work on a new exhaust, I'll try to fit one 2,5" silencer under the car and one in the back.. The car has been way to loud until now!

I have also made a big decision now.. I'll run the turbo this summer and then I'll sell the turbo, manifold etc and go for a normal streetport with the fuelinjection and a good exhaust..

I simply got tired of trying to get the car legal with the turbo setup.. I have now tried every way I have heard of to get it legal as a turbocar but I have given up now.. So if anyone is interested I'll sell the turbo, manifold and intercooler at the end of September 2002! wankel@home.se

020214 : After a few months with no major updates I thought I'd let you know what I'm doing. I bought a used wing (stock). At the picture the wing is just held in place with tape.

I put the lowering springs on the front, this looks good I just gotta finish making the spacers so the wheels will come out bit. I have also been working on the fulesystem for the engine. I will have to modify the intake (again) after I discovered that with the previous mods it cam dangerously close to the turbo!

011217 :  Time flies ! (or here we go again).
After being in the garage for a few months I have finally started working on the car again! To start I took the front bumper off the car so it would be possible to work. I also removed the panel between the headlights. This will be painted in the same strange white color as the rest of the car until I have money to repaint the whole car. I also needed to take the front off to install the intercooler.
I installed a new alternator as the one that was in the car was borrowed.
After starting the car up for one last time I took the carb intake off along with the thermoreactor.
The turbomanifol and turbo was installed.
I also may have found a rear wing for the car.

011001 : Long time since I updated this page. The car has run 2500 km this summer with no major problems. I have done some minor stuff on the car like installing lights in the front bumper. I have now put it in the garage for the winter. The plans are to install the turbo and fix some other stuff until next summer when we will be ready again... I'll keep on updating this during the winter.
The 84 donorcar was picked up by Rickard Niva for parts for his new rallycrosscar.

010709 : The car has now been running for around 1000km and has gone back to the garage.  LSD oil is fixed, will also be added.

010621 : I borrowed a carb from Peter Cahling (thank you!) and the car has now been run for around 1000km without any problems. It's still way to loud but the turbo will cure that.
The rear axle will get new oil for the LSD, at the moment it's making disturbing sounds when you turn....
I have also started to push the car a little more now and the engine is quite powerful despite the strange exhaust and the lack of boost.
I hope I have time during July to get the turbo in there.
The paint also got a treat, now it's whiter than it has been for a long time!
If you wounder why the headlight are up on all pictures ..... the linkage is broken and I'm working on new replacments...
I'm also looking for a sutable rearwing for the car... any ideas?? Mail me!
Some new pictures on the right.

010529 : I ran the car to Kinnekulle for our meeting there.
The car is very loud so Lena and me had to wear earplugs all the way!
However after a few runs the car started running bad, like a miss fire. It later turned out to be a carburetor problem. We took the top of the carb but did not find anything there. We did not take the main fuel jets out and that's probably where the problem is. It ended with us running the car on full choke all the way home! Did not use more fuel than normal......

Now when the car is finally running I'll concentrate on all the stuff that I did not have time for just before the inspection.
I have started working on spacers to get the front wheels out a bit.
I also have a set of lowering springs that I'll try on.
I'll borrow another carb to run in the meantime and I'll change the silencer to a 2" to make my neighbours happy.

010522 : Today the car passed the tech inspection (car control) with a clean paper !!!!
After a week of very hard work on the car it is finally running!
The setup is my 13B  turbo engine but with a stock carb and thermoreactor. The exhaust is 2,5" and only on silencer... a bit to loud!
As I said we (including my girlfriend Lena) have been working a lot the last week top get it done. I even had to take monday  off from work just to get the final parts together.
The car is by no means finished but it has taken the step from "object" to "rolling object". Special thanks to Johan Haglund for helping me to fix the last stuff on monday night!
More details to come!
I will run the car at  our meet at Kinnekulle the coming sunday (27:th).

010424 :  I got the wheels after some very good help from Ulf at www.molway.com, Thanks!
I did discover that the frontwheels (with ET 35) did not fit very good. Stock the Rx7 has 1420mm trackwith, with my 16x7,5 i got only 1370! I'm not really sure why this is but I have to figure something out.... The wheels also came with ET 25 but this does not help me very much...
Apart from tha fact that hurt my back on the 22:nd and had to be home from work for a few days everything is going well....

010406 : Got the new wheels!!! They did one mistake though... I got the rear wheels right but the front wheels did not have the right bolt pattern!? He promised me a new pair this coming week. However the rear wheels fit very good! They are 16x9" with a 25mm offset. Tires in the rear are Fulda Y3000 225/45/16. I did not put the car on the ground yet. It's still to light to show how the height of the wheel will be, but the diameter is not more than 20mm larger than a stock 185/60/13.
I also planned to get the engine in the car this weekend but did not get my flywheel and clutch on friday.....These have been updated to handle the power, more on this later.
The engine was put together last weekend and is just waiting got get in the car!
I also made mounts for the frontbumper of the car and will repair some small stuff on the front fenders soon.

010307 : I have finally ordered the wheels for the car! I also modified the oilpan (13B Rx4 does not fit the Rx7). Made a new mounting for the fuel pump. Waiting for the apexseals... I'm going to try and fit the 84 fuel tank aswell. I think I have to cut the spare wheel container to make it fit. The intake is ready, just needs some paint.

010224 : Have bought new apex seals (stock) for the engine. I have also worked on the intake to fit the 4 Volvo injectors. This looks ok but I think I'll build a whole new intake later. I have also found wheels for the car! I'll be running 16x7,5 in the front and 16x9 in the rear. Dezent C Aluminum. I'll order them soon.
The car is coming along fine now.. Spring is almost here so I better hurry!

001217 : Had to take most of the front suspension of to be able to get the swaybar right.... Now ALL of the front suspension is in place! I also had the car down on wheels for the first time! I think I'll go with widened SAAB 15" wheels for the next summer. I'm still having problems with deciding the width of the wheels... The SAAB wheels are 5,5" stock, I'll probably add 2" in the front and 3" in the rear. Had some problems with the steering arms, it turned out that one of the 84 arms was a little bit bent, used the 81 parts. I have also decided to continue to run the Bosch K-jettronic injection on the engine so I bought a add on injection (used for a very good price). This will run four Volvo S40 Seimens injectors. These are good for almost 200 bhp so I should have enough then. A few more pictures.

001210 : It's fun when you can start putting the car together! Today I've put most of the front suspension in place (All with new paint of course). I have actually used almost all the bits of the 84 car now.... they were in much better shape. It all worked pretty well today... so well that I managed to fit the sway bar upside down! If you know how it's fitted you know that you have to take of lots of parts to turn it around... I went home!
I also painted the fuel tank. I should have used the 84 tank but as that car has a "fake" spare wheel that tank will not fit my car! So, we will have to go with the 81 tank. This one has a very strange construction as the pipes from the tank are in one piece with the tank itself. The 84 tank has a plate with all the connecting pipes on...and it's got a drain plug!.... way better! I cant get the fuel level censor of the tank so I better check that one before putting the tank on the car.
There are some new pictures.

001130 : It has been some time since last time I updated this page. I have however not stopped working on the car! About a month ago I moved the whole electrical system from the 84 car. This was a quite simple operation after the dashboard had been removed. When both cars were "clean" I basically split the system into the three parts. Starting with the engine part, then the dash part and the rear part. After this I had to try and fit the 84 dash into the 81 body... Can't be that hard, right?
Well it's not as easy as it seems.... The attachment points are not all the same on these two. The 84 dash has three major points "on top" of the dash, the 81 has five. These can not be sued at all and had to be removed. Lets hope that it will stay there anyway. The fresh air intakes on the 84 can't be used either, there are simply no intakes in the body...
When I lifted the dash into place my girlfriend had to help me as there was no way to get it there on your own.
The LSD diff has bee updated to fit the 84 drive shafts. The rear axle has been put back on the car.
I also left the front suspension to the painter. I'll try to get the car on wheels before x-mas.
Anyone know where to get 15x8 or 9" wheels for this car??
I'm using the 4x114,3 bolt pattern.... I relay need info on this! wankel@home.se

000604 : Slow progress at the moment. Parts from the front suspension has been repainted. I will start to "move" electrical components and interior parts from the 84 soon.

0001.....0002... : Started painting the engine bay. Have been taking parts of the 84 car. I'll try to use as much as possible of the electrical system from that car.

991213 : I have now started working on the car for real. Got the rearaxels of both cars. taken them apart to make the 84 axle ready for a LSD. All the remaining interior in the 81 car has been removed and I have started to check out the chassi. Everything so far looks good, but the left rear fender will need some work. They have not been nice to the original fender (that's still under there). I have to use some plastic to get it all to look good.
Does anyone know if it is possible to put a 84 dashboard in a 81 body without to much trouble?

990713 : The car has as far as I know a "Mariah" body kit. I've found a few other cars like this on the net and talked to some people. That kit includes all fiberglass front fenders and bumper. Also the rear fenders are widened with fiberglass. I'm not really sure about the rear wing that's on now, were it comes from and so, but I really don't like it that much.
If anyone has more info on how many of these cars were made or anything else about them (the Mariah kit) just let me know ok? It's always nice to know about your car. This one was imported to Sweden in June 86. It then came from the US.

990605 : And so finally, the new project is home! This is a -81 car, as you can se it is a lot wider than an original '7.
The other car is a -84 and will donate dirvetrain (not engine) and the interior.
I will put my 13B turbo engine back together (after last summers breakdown) and use that one.
I'll add more pic's and text here as soon as I have something more.........
